When beginning to breastfeed its normal for your nipples to get sore . Sometimes they even crack and bleed … Here is a nipple balm that I make for my clients that helps heal.
For my healing nipple balm I use : Calendula cream or ointment ( repairs chapped or chafed skin ) , Comfey Root ointment( heals cuts , burns and abrasions ) , Vitamin E oil ( promotes healing ), Lanolin ( anti inflammatory, moisturizer and heals speed healing (* make sure you aren’t allergic ) , Jojoba oil ( moisturizer ) , Coco Butter ( repairs ,heals and is a moisturizer )and Aloe Vera gel ( helps body repair itself ) .
I use a base of calendula cream or ointment and comfrey Root ointment . Then I mix in a little of each ingredient . Keep in refrigerator ( the cold feels good and soothing on the nipples )
* IMPORTANT ….. WASH OFF BEFORE NURSING !!!!!!
After you wash off expose nipples to sunlight and air for 20 minutes ( 5 -10 minutes is fine too, whatever you have time for ) .. You can do in a window it doesn’t have to be done outside . It’s a Great time for a cat nap !!! Take shirt off , lay down in window area and if sunlight bothers you wear eye mask .
